Chava Oropesa Photography

Hi! I’m Chava, an Oakland based Photographer and Creative Director whose love for photography and food, and even the packaging it comes in, has transformed into my life's passion.

Growing up in Mexico City filled my life with colorful culture which has deeply influenced both my design style and photography. Browse my portfolio and you’ll see that I am not a stranger to pops of color and dramatic lighting.

Sparkle and Dazzle! New work done for Peet’s Coffee. The fun part of shooting a brand-new drink is figuring out how it should look at the end.

On the day of the shoot, I worked closely with their development team and creative director. The goal was to capture layers of sparkle, flavor cues, and swirling coffee, and to top it off with a creamy cold foam.

I love the result, and these Sparkling Cold Brew drinks are as delicious as they look.

“Lead with what you love,” is something I tell myself when doing creative work. If I don’t absolutely love it, it will show in the result.

Testing ideas opens doors to collaborating with new creatives and wonderful people who share the same passion and love for creating images that tell new stories. And the ice cream sandwich fantasy was born.

Mariana Swedelson was the food stylist who helped create the ice cream fantasy.

Personal Work. Among the classical desserts found in homes across Mexico, Arroz con Leche holds a special place in the hearts of all. This humble and delicious treat can be served either cold or warm and was inherited from Spain to Mexico. You will discover various versions, all equally tasty.

I am sharing with you my mom’s recipe and a second version that she used to prepare. Check my website under “Con mucho cariño”

Flourless chocolate cake table scene. I love working with the hierarchy of elements and how color can play into that. Composing this scene I imagined an all-white linen and plates table where the slices of the cake would stand out. I added the flowers to give a feel of freshness but also to complement and harmonize with the color of the cake. Client work.

Personal work for a new section on my portfolio. Ingredients for a spicy salsa with smoking habaneros. The bowl is called "molcajete" made of volcanic rock. It's a traditional Mexican kitchen tool used to make salsas.

Personal work (2 of 2 versions), my goal was to create a contracting and vivid image using color and transparency. I wanted to play creating these ice spheres with a frozen flower inside.

I love the idea of ice containing ingredients while fully transparent.

You can call them meatballs but really they are AlbĂłndigas.
My mom would make albĂłndigas at least once a month, as this was also a family favorite. It was usually a meal we would eat for lunch during the week. I remember coming back from school, going inside our house and already knowing what was for lunch since the aroma was so delicious!
