Fifty-Eighth Collection
Powdered sugar rain on top of a vegan forest fruit mousse ball. I am a big fan of action shots and using hands in food photography. I believe they bring food to life in a completely new way. An action shot like this one looks more dynamic and natural if the hands are included, adding, at the same time, so much to the storytelling, don't you think?
On a recent trip to Italy, my wife fell in love with an Aperol Spritz. Returning home, it has become a frequent libation in our home. Admiring the beautiful colors of the drink, I decided to try and capture its beauty in a photograph. This was photographed in my home studio with a strobe light.

Sweet onion with a little spicy chili, followed by a flourish of complex fragrant herbs, finishing with a sweet satisfying heat.
This was a fun one to shoot. I wanted to recreate an outside look, so I went outside and cut big leaves off of trees, and then used them as my background while I shot in my tiny room in my apartment. I definitely got the look and feel I was going for.
Strawberry snow creamy custard. A shot for a dessert cafe. Creamy custard wrapped with mile creep. Everything just melts in your mouth.
The producers of this stunning cut of meat won 'Best Wagyu Beef in the World' a few months after this campaign was shot. We decided to not overcomplicate the hero with the styling, keeping a strong rustic feel to the set, on-brand with the client's rural Australia-based farming operation. The tabletop was actually reclaimed hardwood fence palings assembled on site.
Crunchy Chocolate Rice pop Bars...Homemade dessert, the combinations of texture made it attractive for taste and also visually with the contrast of colors and intense chocolate smell.
"When food styling meets photography". In order to have a beautiful photo, these two arts must dance with synchronicity so the eye can be caught.
This image is from a shoot I did for my Vegan Mexican Street Corn Salad, the newest recipe on my blog. I kept styling and props minimal and neutral to keep the focus on the fresh, beautiful salad.
Isn't it funny how adding fairy lights into a shot immediately makes it feel a little festive? Took this shot to see what shape the bokeh circles would be with my new camera, the EOS R, and was pleasantly surprised they turned out perfectly round.
This was my first sourdough! Even though this was my first sourdough, I have baked bread before. I love baking overnight artisan bread as well as baguettes.of artisan-style overnight bread. The intention behind this photo was to show the scoring. I chose a monochromatic color scheme for a calming and cozy atmosphere, drawing attention to the texture and shape of the bread. At the last minute, I placed my hands in the frame to give a comforting feel with the human element, drawing the viewer in further.
Sugar peas are so beautiful and I wanted to test if I could get a good overhead shot of them. It took a bit of patience to open up the peas carefully and place them one by one until I felt it was right. But I was happy with the final result. Natural light used.

Fresh Raw Sweetcorn still wrapped in the husk. Rich in vitamin C, magnesium, and low in fat. Taken in natural light.
Shot on location for one of the maddest shoot days of all time! 70 dishes in one day! Shot with Bowens 500W strobes, heavily diffused for that nice high-key, 'bright & healthy' look that's so on-trend in Australian cafes during summer. Key light placed very low at the back to bring out the texture in what would otherwise be a very flat and characterless yogurt surface.

The brief for this shoot was to recreate (in-studio) the warm, natural outdoor light of an Australian summer. Using a custom-built flag to shoot the key light through, this gave us that beautiful mottled light as though the sun was shining through an overhead tree canopy. Happy client!
This pasta made from 100% Italian durum wheat gets its striking coloring from the addition of squid ink, served with mussels in white wine sauce and chili flakes, and topped off with dry ice for decoration.
Fantastic oysters shot for the best seafood restaurant on Australia's Gold Coast. Very happy with the styling of this shot, utilizing all-natural elements such as scattered ice, salt & lemon, presented on weathered timber. I wanted a narrow depth of field for this shot to isolate the oysters from the tabletop (keeping them as the hero). This effect was exaggerated by raising the oysters up very high on the bucket for that nice narrow focal plane.
